Church of the Nativity of Mary

The Church of the Nativity of Mary, located in Herbitzheim in the Bas-Rhin, is a Catholic building classified as a historic monument since 1923.

Built between 1842 and 1847 in a neo-Gothic style by architect Auguste Berninger, it features a single nave, a transept, and a choir.

Its imposing facade is crowned with a monumental portal adorned with a sculpted tympanum.

Inside, the church offers rich decoration: the vaults are adorned with frescoes by Gustave Doré and Charles-Émile Freppel, while the stained glass windows, made by the Nancy glassworks, add colorful light to the space. Among the sculptures present, a statue of the Virgin Mary, the church's patron, particularly draws attention. Guided tours can be arranged in summer (July/August) by the Herbitzheim Local History Group.
