Cité Danzas - City of Crafts and Rare Skills
The Cité Danzas occupies the last remnant of the former Danzas company, founded in Saint-Louis in 1816 by Louis Danzas, a former Napoleonic officer. Thanks to its strategic location at the gates of Switzerland and Germany, the company became a major player in international transport. Acquired by the City of Saint-Louis in 1988, the building was renovated to house workshops dedicated to crafts and rare skills.
Inaugurated in 2013, the Cité Danzas is now a space for creation, transmission, and exchange where artisans and artists work and meet.
At the entrance to the site, the sculpture Erato, created by German artist Helmut Lutz from Breisach, pays tribute to the Greek muse of poetry.
It symbolizes the cultural and cross-border openness of the place.
The Cité opens its doors to the public during events such as the European Heritage Days, the European Days of Crafts, and its creators' market held before Christmas.
