Cité Manifeste
On the occasion of its 150th anniversary, SOMCO launched the construction of a new housing estate, an extension of the one built in 1853. Five teams of architects, including Jean Nouvel's, worked on the space freed by the demolition of the Schoettlé warehouses. Delivered in 2005, their projects, all distinct yet spacious, offer five interpretations of modern social housing. They are inspired by the founding principles of the original estate: winding alleys, small private gardens, and terraced architecture evoke the 19th-century Mulhouse blocks while integrating contemporary requirements.
