City Hall
Completed in 1910, the City Hall stands out for its neo-Baroque architecture. Its grand entrance is topped with statues and windows richly decorated with typical 18th-century motifs. Originally designed to serve as a courthouse, the building features grimacing masks on the ground floor, said to represent the city councilors who opposed its construction at this location. In 1955, a swap of premises took place between the city and the Ministry of Justice: the court moved into the former city hall, while municipal services took over the old courthouse. Across Chevaliers Street stands the covered Grand Manège, built in 1847 to allow garrison officers to train their horses sheltered from the weather. At the corner of Chevaliers Street and Roses Street, the Kreutter House, built in the 18th century, hosted Tsar Alexander I during the Haguenau Conferences in June 1815, at the end of the Napoleonic Wars.
