City Moats
Walking along Anatole Jacquot Street, you notice a slight depression in the ground that reveals the history of the old moats.
These ditches, once filled with water, surrounded the city and allowed only one passage: the Porte du Rhin.
This medieval relic, now part of the urban landscape, recalls a time when the city's defense relied on these ramparts and moats.
It was only in the 19th century, with industrialization and growing urbanization, that these moats were drained and filled in, gradually erasing the traces of this fortification to make way for the modern city.
