Crystals

This work, titled *Cristaux*, was commissioned from the artist Pierre Watsky. Installed in 2013 at the Nouveau Bassin, it is the last piece created by the artist, who passed away prematurely shortly after the City of Mulhouse purchased the work. Although Watsky prepared the models and drawings, it was Roland Vonarzx who realized the sculpture based on his notes and sketches.

The sculpture represents a mineral extracted from mines, here a rock salt in its crystalline form.

It consists of an interlocking arrangement of simple geometric volumes, evoking Cubism through its treatment of shapes and structures. This creation also reflects the life of the artist, who himself worked in the potash mines of the region.
