Dauendorf

Perched atop a hill rising over 200 meters above sea level, Dauendorf is a village of about 1,500 residents. Its religious history has left several ancient chapels, still surrounded by legends today. Once entirely devoted to agriculture, the area has gradually urbanized with the expansion of residential neighborhoods. The community life is lively, covering artistic, folkloric, and sporting activities. The village has facilities such as the Concordia community hall, a music room, sports fields, and a primary school. It also hosts one of the main retirement homes in the area. Nearby, the annex village of Neubourg stretches into the Moder valley, where a Cistercian abbey was founded in the Middle Ages. The monks worked there until the Revolution, and part of the site has been preserved and restored by its current owners. Finally, Dauendorf is surrounded by the Haguenau forest, whose trails delight walkers and host a winter running competition each year.
