Dolder Museum
Perched on the heights of Riquewihr, the Dolder, built in 1291, is a museum classified as a "Musée de France" that immerses visitors in the medieval history of this fortified town. Between the 13th and 17th centuries, Riquewihr developed under the influence of the lords of Württemberg, whose traces are still visible today. The museum highlights the town's passive defense means, such as its imposing fortifications, ramparts, towers, and gates, as well as its active defense devices, including weapons and citizen-soldiers who guarded the inhabitants' safety. Visitors also discover the role of the Dolder tower's occupants: gatekeepers, lookouts, and night watchmen, whose duties were essential to the town's protection. From the top of the tower, rising 25 meters high, a breathtaking view opens over the roofs of Riquewihr, the surrounding plain, and, on clear days, the outlines of the Black Forest.
