Donnenheim
Once primarily an agricultural economy, Donnenheim still cultivates vegetables such as onions and cabbages, as well as cereals like wheat, corn, and barley.
Hops are also produced here. Since the 1960s, the village has expanded around its historic center with the creation of several housing developments. Its community spirit relies on the dedication of passionate volunteers who have suitable facilities to organize events.
Among these is the intercommunal sports and leisure ground, located near the new school and managed in partnership with the municipality of Bilwisheim, offering playgrounds for children, a city stadium, a tennis court, and a football field. The village hall, situated in the heart of the old village, hosts small-scale events and is available to private individuals, whether residents of Donnenheim or not. The religious heritage of the commune is particularly notable. The village church, dedicated to Saint Bernard, houses furnishings from the Sainte-Marie chapel, destroyed in 1792, including an impressive Crucifixion sculpture adorning the entrance porch, depicting Christ surrounded by the Virgin Mary and Saint John. In the cemetery, a sandstone cross dated 1789, by an unknown author, also bears witness to local history. Finally, the church bell, originating from the Baumgarten barn, dates back to 1776.
