Ebersmunster
Halfway between Strasbourg and Colmar, the village of Ebersmunster is distinguished by its Saint Maurice Abbey, an 18th-century Austrian Baroque masterpiece. Classified as a historic monument, this church impresses with its three towers topped with bulbous spires covered in green tiles, visible from afar. Inside, a Silbermann organ, fully restored identically in 1999, attracts classical music lovers. Each year, the Ebersmunster Musical Hours, organized by the Friends of the Abbey Association, offer concerts and organ recitals for music enthusiasts.
The village, typical of the Ried region, charms with its authentic character featuring half-timbered houses and old farms. Visitors can also discover two local specialties: the Ried matelote, a traditional fish-based dish, and the "mandelbari," an Alsatian pastry made of stacked shortcrust pastry circles topped with almond meringue.
