Entzheim Lake

Around 1760, the inhabitants of Entzheim dug the artificial pond at the site called "D’Lehmelecher" (the clay pits), which served as a quarry to extract the clay needed for making the wattle and daub used in the construction of half-timbered houses. Once the loess pits were exhausted, the site transformed into a lake. For a long time, it also served as a water reserve for the village in case of fire.

Since 1841, the surroundings and islets of the pond have undergone several redevelopments. The banks were reshaped and bordered by a pleasant walking path, a kiosk, and a bookcase. Today, the lake features a fountain that can be admired from the picnic table or while resting on the seats installed for this purpose.

This place is very popular with anglers, walkers, and even young couples, who use it as a romantic setting for their wedding photos.
