Erstein Sugar Refinery, Cristal Union Group
Founded in 1893 by Alsatian notables and farmers, the Alsatian Sugar Refinery of Erstein aimed to renew local agricultural practices. After World War I, in 1920, the company opened up to investments and was acquired by the SA des Sucreries et Raffineries d’Erstein. A modernization phase was then launched to revive production, with Erstein sugar already enjoying notable success in the region at that time.
In 1983, local growers united to buy a significant share of the capital, marking a turning point in governance. In 1987, a new management team initiated a dynamic that favored the refinery's expansion. Thanks to the diversification of its activities and increased production, Erstein has become a key player in Alsace and shines throughout the Grand Est region.
Driven by a constant quest for excellence and performance, the refinery continues a policy of ongoing modernization. It regularly develops new products to better meet consumer expectations while maintaining impeccable quality. To date, the Sucrerie d’Erstein is not open to visitors.
