Ferrette

Nestled at the foot of its medieval castle, Ferrette is a small Alsatian town located on the first foothills of the Jura. Founded by the powerful Counts of Ferrette, it was one of the most influential lordships of the Middle Ages, ruling with near-sovereignty for almost two centuries. Today, this town with a prestigious past charms visitors with its authentic character, narrow and romantic streets leading to the imposing ruins of Ferrette Castle and the mysterious Dwarfs' Cave, where a local legend is still told today.

The town preserves many reminders of its history, such as its church, town hall, and the Re-Naissance museum space, all classified as historic monuments. The title of Count of Ferrette, currently held by Prince Albert II of Monaco, recalls the historical ties between the Grimaldi family and the Mazarin heiresses, sealed by a marriage in 1777.

Ferrette invites visitors to discover its heritage and natural treasures. Several walking tours are available, including the route to the castle and the Dwarfs' Cave, as well as a circuit through the old town. Visitors can also access the Rossberg panoramic tower for breathtaking views of the surroundings. For families, a fun walk is offered through the "Piste et Trésor" app. Guided tours of the town and castle are also available upon request.
