Fishing at the Pond
Located 2 km north of the town, towards Jaegerthal, the Wohlfahrtshoffen pond lies peacefully in a preserved environment. Crossed by the Schwarzbach river, classified as a first-category fishing river, this natural site was filled with water in 1982. A decade later, its ecological richness justified its designation as a Voluntary Nature Reserve, before obtaining the Regional Nature Reserve label in 2014, highlighting its importance for aquatic biodiversity.
This pond is particularly renowned for its abundant and diverse fish population. It is home to trout, tench, carp, roach, pike, zander, and chub, with active natural reproduction. Fishing is only allowed in the front part of the pond, under specific regulations defined annually by prefectural decree.
Opening periods vary by species: trout fishing is allowed from the second Saturday in March to the third Sunday in September, pike fishing from the first Saturday in June to December 31, and fishing for other fish from the second Saturday in March to December 31. From July 1 to September 15, a 15-day holiday fishing permit is available. Two fishing competitions also enliven the site: an individual contest on Ascension Thursday and a team contest on the second Sunday in September.
