Fishing in the Thur
Flowing along the Alsatian side of the Vosges massif, the Thur winds through a narrow valley where about twenty tributaries feed its waters.
This first-category river stretches over 53.3 kilometers and is notable for its remarkable fish biodiversity.
Zebra trout, often considered trophy specimens, typically measure between 20 and 35 cm, though some exceed these sizes.
Further downstream, the common grayling, successfully reintroduced, impresses with fish frequently between 40 and 45 cm.
The river's management is overseen by the authorized fishing and aquatic environment protection associations (AAPPMA) of La Haute-Thur and La Vallée de la Thur, which actively work to preserve it; one even operates an open-water fish farm.
National Route 66 runs alongside the Thur, providing easy access to its banks through the various towns it passes.
