Flexbourg
Flexbourg stretches across the foothills of the Vosges, where the terrain still bears traces of old gypsum quarries that were exploited until the late 19th century. The commune is home to a 3.5-hectare vineyard, classified as an Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée and part of the Couronne d’Or vineyard union, of which it is a geographical gateway. Walkers can follow old paths lined with calvaries to explore neighboring villages, while admiring to the west the Vosges and the Nideck massif, or to the east the foothills dominated by Mont Scharrach. The Saint-Hippolyte church, built in the 19th century in a neo-Romanesque style, towers over the hills with its 42-meter bell tower. This site was an important pilgrimage destination from the 14th century, thanks to the relics it housed and a healing spring located beneath the building. Several notable houses in the village also deserve attention. Flexbourg had 483 inhabitants in 2022 and offers various associations for all ages. Throughout the year, events enliven local life, such as the Schiewelefier evening marking the arrival of spring, concerts, the July 13th evening, and the seniors' festival to close the year.
