Former Napoléon Theater, now Opera House

Built in 1821 north of Place Broglie, the former municipal theater, now the opera house, was designed by engineer Robin and architect Villot. Its neoclassical architecture is distinguished by a facade adorned with a peristyle of six Ionic columns, each topped by a statue representing a muse.

In 1888, during the German period, architect Johann-Carl Ott added a circular projection with engaged columns. This extension enlarged the building while creating an architectural link between Strasbourg's historic center and the Neustadt district.
