Fort Desaix

Fort Desaix, located in Mundolsheim, bears a name that reflects a turbulent chapter in history.

Originally called Fort Roon, it was built by the Germans between 1870 and 1914 as part of Strasbourg's defensive system.

After World War I and the French victory in 1918, it was renamed in honor of French General Louis Desaix, marking a turning point in its identity. This fort thus represents a pivotal period between German annexation and the return to France.
