Fort Hoche

Built between 1876 and 1878 to strengthen the southern front, this fort is located between the Kirchbach Fort on the right bank of the Rhine and the Werder Fort (later renamed Uhrich Fort).

Designed as a water-filled ditch fortification, it is of the Biehler type, a characteristic Prussian military architecture of that era.

It was initially named Fort Ixa or Fort am Altenheimerhof before being renamed Schwartzhoff in 1873, a name it kept until 1919.
