Fort Uhrich

Fort Werder, renamed Fort Uhrich after World War I, was built for defensive purposes to withstand a prolonged siege.

It could accommodate 700 soldiers spread across about a hundred rooms inside.

Its unique feature is its water-filled moat, a rare characteristic among forts in the fortified belt.

Once surrounded by historic ditches, the site has undergone rehabilitation of its natural surroundings to enhance the environment.

To date, the fort is not open to the public.
