Fort Uhrich Park
This fort is part of a ring of 19 fortresses built by the Prussians around Strasbourg between 1872 and 1882, intended to protect the city in case of conflict. Originally named Fort Werder, it was renamed Fort Uhrich after World War I.
Designed to withstand a siege, it could house up to 700 soldiers spread across about a hundred rooms.
Today, Fort Uhrich stands out as the only moat-surrounded fort in this ring still accessible to the public.
To reach it, simply follow the Forts trail on foot or by bike. The historic moats, once essential to its defense, have been restored to highlight the site's natural surroundings. Although the interior of the fort is not open to visitors, an outdoor route allows you to walk around it along paths bordering the moats and ramparts. This arranged path offers visitors the chance to admire the landscape while discovering this unique heritage through informative panels recounting its history.
