Fortified Cemetery of Hartmannswiller
This defensive structure, remarkable for its rare architecture in Alsace, is one of the two remaining examples of its kind alongside the one in Hunawihr.
Built in the 15th century, it was once surrounded by now-disappeared moats and features a wall about one meter thick, punctuated by defensive towers and arrow slits.
At the time, it provided essential protection to the inhabitants against external threats.
Today, a pathway has been laid out around the cemetery to allow visitors to discover this unusual construction.
Along this route, the enclosure also offers a view of Hartmannswiller Castle, nestled in a green setting.
This castle, located very close to the cemetery, was once the seat of the Hartmannswiller family, who gave their name to the village.
