Fountain and Well in Westhalten
This fountain once marked the boundary between the communes of Rouffach and Soultzmatt.
Its basin, octagonal in shape, is made of pink sandstone, a local material, with the oldest parts dating back to the second half of the 17th century.
On the rear column, a stone plaque recalls strict rules: it was forbidden to wash, pollute, or water cattle or mounted horses here, under penalty of a fifty-centime franc fine.
A square capital made of yellow sandstone, originating from Rouffach, bears the inscription: "By the benevolent contribution of the citizens of Westhalten."
The fountain is topped by a stone statue representing the Virgin and Child, standing on the globe of the Earth, encircled by the rings of a serpent.
