Franco-German Historial of the Great War at Hartmannswillerkopf
The Historial serves as a historical, tourist, and memorial space, primarily designed to be educational. It offers a broad perspective on the events of the First World War, while placing special emphasis on the Hartmannswillerkopf – Vieil Armand. This focus creates a direct connection with the site and the nearby national monument, providing visitors with a deeper understanding of this iconic location.
Beyond this local aspect, the exhibition explores the evolution of Franco-German relations through a journey spanning from the post-war period to key moments of reconciliation. It highlights reunions of soldiers from both sides on the battlefields, as well as significant international ceremonies, such as those on August 3, 2014, and November 10, 2017.
