French Military Cemetery of Les Chênes - National Necropolis of Wisches
Perched on the heights overlooking Hersbach and Wisches, the French military cemetery of Les Chênes is a memorial site dedicated to soldiers who fell for France during the summer of 1914. These intense battles, notably the "Battle of the Oaks," marked the Bruche and Schirmeck valleys.
Inaugurated in 1924, this national necropolis gathers the remains of 504 soldiers. Among them, 60 rest in individual graves, while two ossuaries hold the remains of 444 others.
Around the cemetery, remnants of fortified shelters and several steles still bear witness to the local history and the violence of the Great War.
