French National Necropolis of Carrefour Duchesne

In the heart of the forest, at the foot of Tête des Faux, the Carrefour Duchesne National Necropolis stands at a crossroads.

This memorial site, born from the fierce battles of World War I in the nearby massif, is named after Commander Duchesne, battalion chief of the 215th Infantry Regiment, who fell on December 2, 1914, during the fighting at Tête des Faux.

The cemetery gathers the graves of 294 soldiers and houses an ossuary where 116 other fighters rest, in a setting once occupied by a now-disappeared military camp.

A place rich in history, it blends harmoniously with its natural surroundings, offering a profound and striking atmosphere depending on the weather conditions. Visitors can reach it via several options: hiking or mountain biking trails start from Col du Calvaire, while in winter, the cross-country ski trails of the Lac Blanc resort also provide access to this place of remembrance.
