French National Necropolis of Wettstein
Perched at an altitude of 877 meters in the heart of a forest, this military cemetery covers nearly 10,000 m². It holds the remains of 3,538 French soldiers, including 2,171 individual graves and two ossuaries containing the remains of 1,288 other fighters. Dedicated as a National Necropolis after the war, this memorial site honors those who lost their lives in combat.
At the far end of the cemetery stands an imposing 13-meter-high granite cross. Erected to never forget the suffering endured by the soldiers, it also symbolizes the gravity of the sacrifices made during the conflict.
