Frohmuhl
Frohmuhl is a typical village nestled in the steep valleys of pink sandstone on the Lorraine Plateau, in Alsace Bossue.
Crossed by the Eichel River, it shares this preserved natural setting with other communities in the region.
Once shaped by agriculture, the surrounding slopes and the valley itself have reforested following land abandonment in the second half of the 20th century.
For about ten years, the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park has been conducting an ecological management experiment of the fallow lands by introducing extensive Highland Cattle grazing.
These cattle, originally from Scotland, help keep the valley landscapes open, providing an economic and environmentally friendly solution.
