Galtz Monument
Perched at an altitude of 731 meters, the Galtz Monument, poetically nicknamed the "Alsatian Corcovado," stands as a symbol of peace and remembrance. This statue depicts Christ blessing the Alsace plain and is located at the border of the communes of Ammerschwihr, Katzenthal, and Niedermorschwihr. Erected in the 1930s, it honors the victims of conflicts that marked the Alsatian battlefields, providing a place for reflection and memory.
Climbing the monument's steps, an accessible walkway leads to an exceptional panoramic viewpoint. From this lookout, the view encompasses a vast landscape: the peaks of the Vosges Mountains, a section of the famous Alsace Wine Route, Alsatian villages with half-timbered houses, the Rhine plain stretching as far as the eye can see, and on clear days, the outlines of the Black Forest in Germany appear on the horizon.
