Gambsheim
Gambsheim, a charming Alsatian village, still has 75 half-timbered houses, including three from the 17th century. The oldest, finely crafted, bears the year 1674 and was made by a carpenter from the Allgäu region. After the great fire of 1717, several farms were rebuilt, including the largest, the restaurant "Au Soleil," a former horse post relay on the Strasbourg – Fort-Louis line. The town hall, built in 1823, stands out with its entirely half-timbered structure and elegant bell tower. A unique feature of this village is its houses, which once had balconies or galleries. To explore this heritage, a circuit of Alsatian houses in Gambsheim is available for download on the town's website.
