Garden of the Book

The Garden of the Book is a creation of the Jardin biblique du Wihr association, in partnership with landscape architect Jean-François Trouvé. Located at the foot of Saint-Blaise Church, in the historic heart of Wihr (former castle moats), this garden offers a symbolic journey through the major episodes of the three monotheistic religions born around the Mediterranean: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

The path begins with an evocation of paradise, represented by four rivers made of Rhine pebbles, bordered by fig trees, palms, and pomegranate trees.

It continues towards Egypt and the Red Sea, represented by papyrus, reeds, and rushes.

The section dedicated to the New Testament opens beyond a rose-covered pergola, with twelve mulched squares illustrating its stories. The Passion and Resurrection are staged by two steles surrounded by distinct plants: thistles, Bohemian olives, and poppies for one, white and yellow spring-blooming plants for the other. Grasses and daylilies then evoke Pentecost, while sages and aloe vera symbolize the salvation of body and soul.
