Grand Tétras Refuge

In the heart of the largest forest massif in the Vosges, between 300 and 1010 meters in altitude, the Refuge du Grand Tétras is an authentic mountain refuge located on the edge of the Mossig stream, at the foot of the Wolfsberg, Grand Rosskopf, and Schneeberg massifs. Built from local wood, it is situated in the tourist resort of Wangenbourg-Engenthal, within the Schneeberg-Donon massif.

The ground floor houses a common room equipped with four tables, a kitchen corner with a double sink, a four-burner gas stove with oven, and a refrigerator with a freezer compartment. Dishes and utensils are provided for twenty people. Upstairs, a dormitory with fifteen bunk beds completes the accommodation. The sanitary facilities, including two showers, four sinks, and two toilets, are shared.

The refuge, featured in many French and international guides, is an ideal spot for hikers following trans-Vosges routes such as GR 53, 531, 532, 534, or the TMV (Crossing of the Vosges Massif by mountain bike). It offers four breakfast options, as well as catered meals and picnics prepared by the village’s artisanal butcher, with a choice of fifteen Alsatian menus delivered hot on site. Hiking, tourism, and nature advice is also available, along with maps and a variety of documentation, including the *Les Sapins Bleus* collection written by the owner.
