Gresswiller

Perched about thirty kilometers southwest of Strasbourg, Gresswiller suddenly appears around a rocky outcrop, marking the entrance to the picturesque Bruche Valley.

Crossed by the river of the same name, this peaceful village reveals remarkable historical and natural heritage.

The local church, the most striking building in the area, impresses with its late Gothic bell tower. Its facade features a door lintel dated 1523, depicting Saint Martin sharing his cloak with a poor man.

Nearby, embedded in the wall of the old cemetery enclosure, a miniature Holy Sepulchre, probably made around 1500, catches visitors' eyes.

Another treasure is hidden in a nursery school: an ancient planetarium, an ingenious mechanism reproducing the movements of the Earth, the Moon, and the planets, while indicating the days and months.

Beyond these cultural riches, Gresswiller offers superb walks, notably the ascent of the Wurmberg limestone hill. The slopes of this site host grasslands with orchids and rare flowers, adding a touch of rarity to this preserved natural setting.
