Gries

Five tumuli, or burial mounds, along with about thirty objects and tools dating from the Neolithic period (Polished Stone Age) were discovered during excavations on both sides of the road connecting Gries to Marienthal.

These remains, now displayed at the Haguenau Historical Museum, testify to an ancient human presence in the region.

They predate by several millennia the first written document mentioning the village, dated March 13, 826, where it appears under the name *Gerareshusa*.
