Guirbaden Castle

A relic from the time when Alsace was part of the Holy Roman Empire, Guirbaden Castle was built between the 10th and 13th centuries. Perched on a wooded hill 1 km from Mollkirch, it overlooks the Bruche Valley and covers 2 hectares, making it the largest and one of the oldest castles in Alsace. Today, only impressive ruins remain: the main building, the keep, the 'hunger tower,' sections of the enclosing walls, and the Saint Valentine chapel. These ruins offer exceptional views over the Alsace plain and the valley below.

Several trails lead to the site from Grendelbruch or Fischhutte, including marked routes like the GR 531 and the 'Path of the Stone Maidens.'

The association 'Save Guirbaden,' founded in April 2015, regularly organizes restoration workdays open to all. No special skills are required—just a willingness to participate in various activities such as wall rebuilding, pottery sorting, or clearing brush. These days are canceled in bad weather and announced on the association's monthly calendar.
