Gundolsheim

Gundolsheim is first mentioned in the 8th century as the possession of the Etichonides, a family of dukes of Alsace under the Merovingians. In the Middle Ages, the village was likely surrounded by fortified walls, but only a few remnants remain today. You can still admire an old village gate located on Merxheim Street, with walls adjoining houses 13 and 14. From the 13th century, two noble families each owned a castle here, but none of these buildings have left visible traces. Nevertheless, the overall profile of the village and its Romanesque bell tower still bear witness to its medieval origins.
