Heidenbuckel Surface Shelter

This shelter, one of the five large above-ground concrete structures built in 1932, stands on the eastern edge of the Haguenau forest, south of Leutenheim.

Its purpose was to protect the area between the neighboring shelters of Donau and Soufflenheim. The structure, measuring 37 meters by 17, could accommodate up to 60 men and had a kitchen capable of preparing meals for 180 rations, including occupants and surrounding interval troops. It is open to the public on May 1st, Pentecost Sunday and Monday, and the first Sunday of July, August, and September. To confirm these dates, it is advisable to check with the Leutenheim town hall.
