Hirsingue
Hirsingue, one of the 11 Alsatian communes awarded the 4th flower for its floral displays, is a small town of 2,700 inhabitants that invites leisurely strolls. Its picturesque streets – Rue du Cercle, Rue du Tilleul, and Rue du Moulin – run alongside the Felbach, where ducks enliven the scenery. These avenues, shaded by majestic lime trees and lined with half-timbered houses, offer a peaceful and bucolic walk. The church, built in 1774, houses a painting of Saint Nicholas, while the nearby chapel preserves the tombstone of Marie Anne de Montjoye, wife of the last lord of Hirsingue. He had to flee his castle to seek refuge in Altkirch during the revolutionary troubles on July 29, 1789. To explore these lanes, the parking lot of the last still-operating mill in Sundgau is an ideal starting point. Nearby, opposite the sports complex, a nature park has been set up for families, with a playground for children.
