Hohwiller

Perched in the lush Green Alsace, Hohwiller is a charming Alsatian village where time seems to have stood still. Its picturesque streets are lined with half-timbered houses, mostly built in the 18th century, reflecting a rich architectural heritage. In summer, the village is adorned with a thousand colors thanks to meticulous flower displays, recognized with four flowers in the national "Towns and Villages in Bloom" label. A stroll along its shaded paths reveals the gentle way of life that prevails here.

Heading back towards Soultz-sous-Forêts, a stop is a must at the Saint John the Baptist Church, a unique building. This simultaneum, shared between Protestant and Catholic worship, houses medieval frescoes of great artistic value. Among them, a major work draws particular attention: a 15th-century Eucharistic Mill. Painted by an unknown artist, this rare motif is found in only thirteen churches worldwide, including eleven in Germany and just two others in Northern Alsace, within the Green Alsace region.
