Holy Family Church

The church, built in the Neo-Gothic style from Vosges sandstone between 1897 and 1899 according to architect Joseph Heilig's plans, was consecrated in 1899, ending the simultaneum practice where Catholics and Protestants shared the same worship space. Now exclusively Lutheran, the church on Main Street had its bell tower modified in 1930. An existing tower at the northeast of the chancel was raised with a belfry and spire by the Strasbourg architectural firm Risch and Herveh. Some decorative elements, such as portals and frames, remain unfinished except for the tympanum of the main portal, which was sculpted later. Several interior renovation campaigns have taken place over the years. It also houses a 1968 Rothinger organ, one of the last instruments produced by this maker, noted for its graphic style and high value among organists. This site is one of the rare examples of an Alsatian Neo-Gothic church with partially unfinished decoration.
