Illhaeusern

Perched at 176 meters altitude and nestled 7 kilometers below the famous Wine Route, this Alsatian village combines charm and tranquility.

With 653 inhabitants, it enjoys a lively local life thanks to its nearby shops, both mobile and permanent, as well as varied accommodations: two hotels, several restaurants including a highly reputed one, guest rooms, and even a bivouac area for travelers seeking authenticity.

Its history is marked by its past as a boatmen's village, as reflected in its name, Illhaeusern, inspired by the Ill river that runs through the commune and gave its name to the Alsace region.

In winter, the village is adorned with festive Christmas decorations, offering a warm and picturesque atmosphere. Visitors can discover heritage treasures such as the two churches rebuilt after the war, decorated with artistic stained glass, and the Char Porc-Épic, symbolizing the fierce battles that marked the Liberation.

For nature and relaxation lovers, boat or canoe rides on the Ill are a must.

Finally, July and August enliven the village with festivities like the Boatmen's and Fry Festival, celebrating both the river heritage and local flavors.
