Irmstett Chapel

The "De dirre Herrgott" chapel, located within the municipality of Scharrachbergheim-Irmstett, is an ancient Celtic place of worship. It notably houses a statue depicting a gaunt Christ, a representation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, as well as a salty spring called "Sauerbrunnen." An old well also completes this historically rich site.

According to legend, during the Thirty Years' War, a Swedish soldier chased a young village girl. Cornered, she took refuge in the reeds by the salty spring. She then vowed to erect a cross there if she managed to escape her pursuer. Having survived, she kept her promise.

The "Sauerbrunnen" spring is traditionally reputed for the healing properties of its waters.
