Ittenwiller Castle
One kilometer west of Saint-Pierre, the Ittenwiller site holds traces of a Roman potters' workshop, one of the earliest in Alsace, with remains discovered on site. In the 12th century, in 1115, Canon Conrad founded an Augustinian priory nearby a chapel. Abandoned and in ruins, the site was restored in 1661 by the Bishop of Strasbourg. Today, the former priory is surrounded by an enclosure featuring remarkable elements: a section of fortified walls equipped with loopholes, moats bordered by bridges, and an imposing entrance structure. The estate also includes a residence, farm buildings, a vegetable garden, a park, and an orchard. The castle, still inhabited by the Counts of Andlau family, remains private property.
