Jaegerthal

In 1602, Adam Jaeger settled in the Schwarzbach valley after obtaining a lease from the Count of Hanau. He established forges that were destroyed in 1631 during the Thirty Years' War.

Despite this destruction, the place retained the name Jægerthal, or "Jæger Valley."

Rebuilt thanks to the Count of Hanau, the forges were bought by Jean De Dietrich in 1684. The blast furnace was lit for the first time in 1685.

The business faced difficulties during the Revolution before experiencing a revival from 1840.

Activity ceased permanently at the end of 1885.

Today, the hamlet of Jægerthal spans the territories of the communes of Niederbronn-les-Bains and Windstein, separated by the Schwarzbach stream. This historic site, marked by the old De Dietrich forges, offers a picturesque stop for hikers and travelers seeking authenticity.
