Jean-Jacques Schmaltzer Square
Jean-Jacques Schmaltzer Square honors one of the three founders of Mulhouse's first printed cotton factory, established in 1746. It is bordered by R+2+C style buildings, constructed from the late 19th century. These nearly identical, row-aligned buildings differ only in their plaster decorations on the facades. They provided a more affordable housing option than those in the nearby Cité, which were often too expensive for workers at the time.
