Jebsheim

Jebsheim, whose development dates mainly back to the Gallo-Roman era, flourished near the crossroads of two major ancient routes: the road linking Basel to Strasbourg and the one leading to the Baden region.

The village first appears in records in 891 under the name Yebinesheim.

Its history has been marked by hardships, notably the Thirty Years' War and plague epidemics, which decimated its population. Despite these challenges, Jebsheim capitalized on the fertile lands of the Alsace Ried, where thriving pastures supported dynamic agriculture. The village became the leading dairy producer in the department while developing a metallurgical industry that contributed to its economic growth.
