Kaysersberg Castle

Kaysersberg, a former imperial city, preserves a medieval castle built around 1200 to control the roads coming from Lorraine. This strategic site, at the heart of conflicts between the Empire and the Dukes of Lorraine, is distinguished by its imposing cylindrical keep. This keep, one of the oldest round keeps in Alsace, impresses with walls over four meters thick. Protected by these fortifications, the lordly residence is notable for its pointed arch windows, typical of medieval architecture.

To enjoy an exceptional panorama, you must climb the 122 steps of the staircase leading to the top of the keep. From this height, the view embraces Kaysersberg, the entrance to the valley on the mountain side, the surrounding vineyards, and, on clear days, the outlines of the Black Forest in Germany. Two staircases and a path crossing the vineyards, starting from the old town, provide access to the castle ruins.
