Kirrwiller
Kirrwiller is located near the Roman road that once connected Brumath to Bouxwiller. The place called "Im Römer" and Roman coin remains found in an old well testify to this past.
Around the year 650, with the rise of Christianity, the free peasants of Kirrwiller and neighboring villages built a first church, probably timber-framed. This place of worship became the center of a large parish grouping seven villages.
The first written mention of Kirrwiller, under the name *KIRIHUILARE* ("church village"), appears in a charter from the year 840. The church is dedicated to Saint Martin.
Today, the village is famous for housing the Royal Palace, the third largest music hall in France, which attracts more than 200,000 visitors each year.
