Klinglin Hotel, now the Prefect's Hotel
The Prefect's Hotel, built around 1730 in a characteristic French style, is named after its patron, François-Joseph de Klinglin, royal lender in Strasbourg from 1725 to 1752. Its pink sandstone facade is distinguished by a harmony between the ironwork and rococo motifs of the large shell-shaped entrance portal and the window sills.
Completely destroyed during the 1870 siege, the building was rebuilt identically while being equipped with modern amenities, such as forced-air heating. It then served as the residence of the Governor of the Reichsland of Alsace-Lorraine from 1871.
