Kuhlendorf

Perched near Betschdorf and Soultz-sous-Forêts, the village of Kuhlendorf houses a rare architectural gem: the only half-timbered church in Northern Alsace. Built in 1820, this building, classified as a historic monument, had a dual purpose: it was both a place of worship and, at the back, a school. Visitors can still see an original classroom, topped by a residence reserved for the schoolmaster. Opening the old school door reveals the preserved furniture from that bygone era.

A short distance away, another local heritage witness draws attention: the "Wachthiesel," a half-timbered guardhouse dating from the 19th century. This small building recalls the strategic importance of the region at that time.

To end the visit in a relaxed way, a picnic and playground area is located at the village exit, heading towards Soultz-sous-Forêts.
